Here is the transcript of the video:

Today's reel is focused on Kalissa from Dottie and Mae Apparel.

Kalissa grew up in Merced in central California & currently lives in Sacramento which is up north.

Four years ago, when learning how to sew, she couldn’t justify buying all new materials when she was ruining so many of the projects she was creating as a beginner, so I thrifted.

As she found she was not alone, she encountered more and more upcyclers and slow fashion designers. This solidified her choice to always use thrifted/secondhand fabric realizing its impact on the environment.

It was two years ago when she upcycled her mom’s wedding dress into a flower girl dress for her daughter to wear, that she fell in love with the idea of giving new life to things destined to spend forever in a box, a shelf or even in the trash. That's when Kalissa started Dottie & Mae. The company is named after both her grandmothers. She discovered a real passion for designing, not just sewing and hasn't stopped since.

Kalissa snd her husband have been married for 13 years and have two brilliant and bold toddlers. He is her best friend and biggest supporter. Dottie & Mae, as a business, and Kalissa as a person, strongly and proudly support LGBTQIA+ rights.
