Today's reel is focused on Kyla Yates from Suzie Lynn Sews

She grew up in the suburbs of Seattle, WA and now lives across the state in Pullman. She’s a cat-mom to 2 baby girls, a member of the LGBTQ+ community and uses she/her and they/them pronouns interchangeably.

Kyla dove into sewing around February 2022 but by mid 2023, they realized they’d need to shift their crafting mindset to a more sustainable one due to all the overconsumption in the fashion/clothing industry.

She really wants people to know that sewing can and should be accessible and fun for anyone.

Here are a few projects she’s worked on recently:

This sweater knit was something her partner’s grandma gave her and turned into this v-neck sweater vest. She paired that with a pleated skirt made from fabric already in her stash.

This second set of fits features one of their favorite hacks, dyeing fabric. Such a great option for changing up something you already have. All garments were made from her own stash.

Saving the best for last, this BREATHTAKING dress is from a recent fashion show wherein the ONLY new materials were the gems on the top. Oh and I’m fairly proud to tell you she got the sparkly bit around the sleeve poofs from Nacho Ann’s.

Kyla tries to balance goals with reality when it comes to sustainability. Do they use cloth towels? Yes! But it’s OK if they still buy paper towels sometimes too.

WOW! Please follow Suzie Lynn Sews and Thank You Kyla for sharing your life with us.
